Etsy – an online marketplace for handmade goods – is a great place to pick up home décor trends, even when you’re not buying. From colorful area rugs to vintage canning jars, it’s a great place to browse and spot the trends you’ll be soon be seeing in the homes of your friends and neighbors.
We took a look around Etsy and collected some of our favorite trends to share with you. The best part? You don’t even have to pull out your credit card to pull off some of these looks in your own home.

1. Rugs in many colors
Color is the word when it comes to rug trends on Etsy. Users favor handmade area rugs in rainbow colors that look like confetti on the floor. Hand knotted area rugs that give off a rustic appeal are also popular for entryways or maybe next to a fireplace. Whatever your taste, you can find a popular style of rug to warm up any décor. And while Etsy’s prices can get a bit steep, you can find discount area rugs elsewhere online.
2. Pillows with personality
Whether it’s a monogramed set for the bedroom or bold, color-blocked pillow cases, pillows are a popular way to show off your personality at home. Unique finds like a pillow set featuring the shape of New Zealand or shams with a funky art deco pattern abound. This is a great way to spice up store-bought bedding or to bring new life and color to a ho-hum sofa.
3. Canning jar overhaul
The Mason jar trend that’s been so popular on Pinterest lately is also getting some creative love over at Etsy. Crafters are using them as creative wedding favors, vases, and even transforming them into portable drink containers by poking a hole in the lid and inserting a heavy-duty plastic straw. But our favorite idea by far involves lighting. For this trend, look for pieces where the jar is used as a light pendant that suspends from the ceiling with a single bulb inside each jar. Popular incarnations on this idea include clustering several jars that hang at varying lengths or creating a chandelier that keeps that all at the same length but spaces the jars out. Or at least vintage-looking. Crafters resurrect old furnishings by giving them a new paint job or installing new fixtures but work hard to maintain a classic patina that gives it a signature look. Animal themes and anything with a unique print add to this old school look. Save yourself some cash by looking for interesting items such as these at thrift stores and flea markets. We’ve long loved wall decals for their style and ease of care.
